Introduction
In Gigasheet, we can sort columns in two different ways; numerically and text characters.
How to get there
Login to Gigasheet > Select a Sheet > Sort
Sorting numbers/dates:
This type of sorting works for any numerical values you may have in your dataset. Whether that be integers like age, or an amount of money. Sorting numerically also works for dates. You have two options when sorting numerically. Either 1-9, in which case the lowest values will show at the top of the dataset, and the higher values will be at the bottom. If we apply this sorting to date-time values, the oldest dates will be at the top, and the most recent values will be at the bottom. You can also sort your data from 9-1. This means that the largest values will appear at the top of your dataset, and the smallest values will be at the bottom. For dates, this means the most recent events will be at the top, and the oldest events will be at the bottom.
Sorting characters:
The other way to sort values in Gigasheet is by characters. More specifically, A-Z. Sorting by A-Z will bring values earlier in the alphabet to the top, and those later in the alphabet to the bottom. If we are sorting the words Apple and Abnormal, the word Abnormal would show up first, as the next letter of the word is used for a tie breaker. In this example, the letter “b” in abnormal comes earlier in the alphabet then the letter “p” in apple. This will result in “abnormal” being higher up in our sorted dataset.
We also have the option to sort Z-A. Similarly, this sorts values by character in the alphabet. The only difference being, characters later in the alphabet (Z for example), will show up at the top of our list, and characters earlier in the alphabet (A for example), will show up at the bottom.
