Overview
The Benchmark View (accessible via the Benchmark tab in the top navigation) allows users to evaluate how a specific provider's rates compare to the broader market for the same billing codes and payer combinations.
Setting Up a Benchmark Analysis
- Enter one or more NPIs for the provider(s) you want to analyze. The Explorer automatically looks up each NPI in the NPPES registry to retrieve the provider's name and taxonomy codes.
- Select benchmark taxonomies. The provider's own taxonomy codes are pre-selected, but you can add or remove codes to broaden or narrow the peer group.
- Select billing codes to analyze. You can add multiple codes. The Explorer will show results for each code separately.
- Select payers to include. Leave blank to analyze all payers.
- Define the market area — either by state, by 3-digit ZIP prefix, or by a custom list of ZIP codes.
- Click Run Benchmark.
Tip: For a meaningful peer comparison, keep the taxonomy codes specific to the provider's primary specialty. Broadening to all specialties will include providers who rarely bill the selected codes and may skew the market statistics.
