URL for BI & Spreadsheets: Tableau

Modified on Thu, 25 Apr at 3:09 PM

Introduction

You can import live data from Gigasheet to Tableau with the URL for BI & Spreadsheets. Just follow these steps below.

How to get there

Step 1: Open Tableau Desktop: Start Tableau and go to the start page.

Step 2: Connect to Data: Choose "Web Data Connector" under the "To a Server" section. In the dialog box that appears, enter the URL of the Web Data Connector for CSV files. Tableau provides a Web Data Connector for CSV files which is usually found at https://tableau.github.io/webdataconnector/Examples/csv.html. This connector allows you to connect to CSV files over HTTP.

Step 3: Copy this link here:

And paste here:

Step 4: Copy the URL for BI & Spreadsheets from the Gigasheet dialog. Once the Web Data Connector page loads, enter the URL of your Gigasheet link in the provided field.

Step 5: Proceed to initiate the connection. Tableau will then retrieve the data from the Gigasheet file

Things to Consider:

  • The exact steps might slightly vary depending on the version of Tableau you are using, but the overall process should be similar.
  • File Location: The URL you provide must match the link provided by Gigasheet’s URL for BI & Spreadsheets dialog. Other URLs won’t work.
  • Data Refresh: Gigasheet automatically refreshes the data at this URL for continuous updates. Depending on your Tableau implementation you may be able to schedule data refreshes. In Tableau Desktop, this can be done manually by right-clicking on the data source and selecting "Refresh" or "Extract Data" if you are using an extract. In Tableau Server/Online, you can refresh the data source from the Data Source tab.
  • Note that Tableau is a separate product with its own support, pricing, and features.

Additional Tips:

You can test the Gigasheet URL in a private browser window to verify its accessibility.

If encountering issues, consider downloading the CSV locally and importing it from your computer to Tableau to test compatibility.
