Introduction

Connect your live data in Gigasheet to Microsoft Excel with the steps below.

How to get there

Option 1:

Step 1. Open Excel and go to the Data tab.

Step 2. Click From Web in the Get & Transform Data group.

Step 3. Paste the URL from the Gigasheet URL for BI & Spreadsheets dialog into the box and click OK.

Step 4: In the Navigator window, select the table containing the data you want.

Step 5: Click Load to import the data into a new worksheet.

Option 2:

Using the From Text/CSV option:

Step 1. Open Excel and go to the Data tab.

Step 2. Click From Text/CSV in the Get External Data group.

Step 3. Paste the URL from the Gigasheet URL for BI & Spreadsheets dialog into the File name field.

Step 4. Click Import and use the Text Import Wizard (if needed) to specify delimiters and data formatting.

Step 5. Click Finish to import the data.

Things to Consider:

  • File Size: Excel has limits on the number rows per sheet.
  • File Location: The URL you provide must match the link provided by Gigasheet’s URL for BI & Spreadsheets dialog. Other URLs won’t work.
  • Data Refresh: Gigasheet automatically refreshes the data for continuous updates. To refresh the data to reflect changes in Excel, right-click the table and select Refresh.

Additional tips:

  • For large files, Power Query is generally more efficient and flexible.
  • Consider using Power Query to further transform and clean the data after import.
  • You can test the Gigasheet URL in a private browser window to verify its accessibility. If encountering issues, consider downloading the CSV locally and importing it from your computer to Excel to test compatibility.
